What one thing is forever constant in life? Change.
So many people over the years have told me that they don’t like change. It’s natural to think that change is a bad thing, especially in the workplace. Change can be daunting, scary, taking us from our comfort zone. But the truth is, these people are already living with change every day. The weather changes, we grow, desires, hopes and dreams - all change. Like it or not you have to embrace it. Change is constant.
In the workplace change can be good! It can allow you to keep that competitive edge, while also remaining relevant in your business area. Change encourages innovation, develops skills. Develops staff and leads to better business opportunities and improves overall morale.
Those companies that don’t change can stagnate and not develop. Our current world is constantly evolving in terms of technology and many other challenging but innovative ways. Having the ability to face these new challenges head-on will not only develop the company as a whole but also those who work within it.
Here are three effortless ways to embrace change:
1. Acceptance. As I’ve mentioned above; change is the only constant. If you can learn to let change work for you and benefit you, you will be happier and more understanding of the process of growth. Embracing change is key to your success and happiness.
2. Make changes before change forces you. Change is inevitable, it is therefore far better to initiate changes ourselves using our own free will than letting changes affect us in a dramatic way further down the line. Find new possibilities and opportunities, be brave and face the fear. Change is rarely as bad as you think it is, and can often be potentially life enhancing.
3. Seek out new perspectives. Ask all the questions to anyone willing to teach you something. Learning from the experiences of others will broaden your mind to what is possible. Listen carefully – the best way to widen your perspective is to hang around some people who have different views than you do (of course, networking is fantastic way of hearing the opinions of others).
Just remember that if you reject change you can’t expect to grow. Growth in itself is change. The journey might not always be easy, but it will be worth it.
