Appreciation…“recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something!”
It seems to me that many of us are running around like headless chickens, busy either trying to get, confirm or deliver some form of business and yet there is another side to business, and of course life, which goes a very long way.
Appreciation.
I have been lucky enough to receive two such opportunities for appreciation (and recognition) in the last few days…
Firstly, a testimonial from a client helping them to be more comfortable and effective at presenting both themselves as individuals and their business:
"I want to express my sincere thanks for the fantastic work you've done with our team. Your impact on their confidence has been remarkable. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you again in the future.
The testimonial was in recognition of the work done however, far more importantly, a genuine appreciation for not just a return on investment, but the real affect it had on the attendees.
The second opportunity was our attendance at the Professional Speaking Association annual conference, this year in Solihull.
I say attendance…
The family business, led by our elder daughter Sara Beth, runs the highly effective back office operational team for the association and they collectively set up and run the conference each year.
The conference is always tiring and demanding, however with the help of many volunteers from the association it is a delight to be part of and we love it!!
Each year there is a special award called The Spirit of Joy, which is in honour of our late President Joy Marsden, a great personal friend to both the family and many within the association. It is given to an individual who has shown tremendous support to the organisation and traditionally there is just one person each year.
This year it was awarded to David Henson a very worthy recipient.
However, at the end of the awards ceremony the National President announced that it had been decided that an unprecedented second Spirit of Joy award was to be presented…
…to the whole operational team!
To see my family be the recipients of such a prestigious award and receive a huge standing ovation was a very special moment and (being biased) thoroughly deserved.
The level of appreciation was palpable, and I know how much it meant to everyone.
